I'm up to my ears in save the date orders, thanks to my luggage tag magnets. They're my babies so I'm a little biased but they are pretty much the BEST way to say you're getting married. The magnet is a sure-fire way to remind guests of the upcoming date and if you have a wedding website it will help keep them in the loop as they always have the web address around! Even if you aren't buying my magnets I suggest doing a magnet if you can.
But the question I wanted to answer today is - When do you send out Save the Date cards?
Save the dates are a must these days for destination weddings so people can start making plans and getting flight deals. But save the dates are also fun for weddings with all local guests too. These days people can book up fast and there's no shame saying you want them at your wedding above all! The rule of thumb out there seems to be:
A wedding with mainly in-town guests: 3 to 4 months before the big day (invites should go out 2 to 3 months before).
A wedding with many out-of-towners or a destination wedding: About 6 to 9 months before date. Some people say you can even go 12 months prior but please please please, for my sake, do not send them out more then a year before your wedding. That makes my brain hurt. If I were in this situation I might start looking and ordering save the dates at a year out but about 7 months before the wedding would be my ideal goal to ship.
Hope this post comes in handy when you, your fiance, and both moms have opposing views on timing!

You're awesome, Abby! And so much fun to read!
Love you!
